It is time to protect our pets from fleas and ticks.

There are many different types of diseases that can be transmitted by ticks and fleas to dogs and cats and people. These ticks can be very small and almost impossible to see and even the baby (nymph) ticks can transmit disease and can even carry multiple diseases.

The best way to protect your pet is to use a safe and effective product to prevent transmission of disease. There are also a wide variety of products available from oral products to topical products to collars. Although many of these products can be effective, for most dogs we recommend a prescription oral medication. These products are safe and any potential side effects would be discussed with the vet.

At Sleepy Dog, we carry Bravecto (Suraloner) which typically only needs to be given orally every 3 months. Other similar preventatives include Nexgard, Simparica and Credelio which are also very effective and are given monthly. Bravecto is also available as a topical flea and tick preventative for cats as a topical product. Other products that are also available over the counter for dogs and cats are also effective for flea and tick control but may not work as well and include Frontline, Advantix, Seresto and others.

We acknowledge that the town of Arlington is located on the ancestral lands
of the Massachusett Tribe, the tribe of Indigenous peoples from whom the
Colony, Province, and Commonwealth have taken their names. We pay our
respects to the ancestral bloodline of the Massachusett Tribe and their
descendants who still inhabit historic Massachusett territories today.
